Wigginton
closed the gap on leaders Dunnington in the York Minster Engineering
Premier League but were made to work hard for their points at Riccall
were they had lost on their previous two visits. Riccall,
defending an unbeaten run of five, took the lead after 15 minutes through Wayne
Brook and the same player doubled their advantage less than 10 minutes later
but before the break Lee Stewart had reduced the deficit for Wigginton. In the
second half, two goals from Lee McQuade,
the Divisions top goal scorer with 23, swung the game in Grasshoppers favour
and a second goal of the game for Stewart five minutes from time sealed the
victory. Terrington
Glory consolidated their third place in the table with a 3-1 home win over Easingwold Town . An Alex Yates goal separated the
sides at the break before Ben Richardson made it 2-0 with his 13th
league goal of the season and though Tom Green pulled a goal back for
Easingwold the Glory boys sixth game without a defeat was confirmed 10 minutes
from time courtesy of an own goal. York RI entertained Poppleton with both sides
looking for their first win in four games but it was the visitors who succeeded
as Pop won 4-2. Lee Powell’s opening goal for the hosts was cancelled out by
Nick Moss before Alex Janes put Pop in front with a penalty. Powell hit his
second of the game to draw RI level but a Joe Dale brace in the last eight
minutes secured the points for Pop. Chris
Dyson hit four of Huntington’s goals in their 5-0 win at Hamilton Panthers with
the pick of the bunch been his third, a pin-point cross from Gary Mitchinson
was met sublimely by Dyson whose bullet header gave the Panther keeper no
chance at all. Mitchinson completed the nap-hand for Huntington .
The
top three sides in Division One all slumped to defeats so it was a good day for fourth placed White
Horse Church Fenton who won 3-0 at Wilberfoss and who have games in hand on the
leading trio. Leaders Aviva suffered their first home defeat of the season as
they went down 2-0 to Pocklington, Tom Reay and Tom Hoole netted for Pock while
second placed St Clements were beaten 1-0 at Haxby, Darren Storey hit the only
goal of the game as Haxby enjoyed their first home win in 17 matches. After a goal-less
first half third placed Malton & Norton lost 2-1 at home to Total Sports.
Will Wood and sub Dan Palmer hit the goals for the visitors who have now won on
three of last four visits to Malton, Kingsley Daffern hit the lone reply for
the hosts. Hemingbrough recorded their first home win of the season as they
defeated Amotherby & Swinton 4-0, Craig Haythorne scored twice in the
opening half to add to a Jamie Wheeler
goal with Tom Collins, scoring for the fifth game on the trot, completing the rout.
Only
two games were scheduled in Division Two and both finished as
draws. Stamford Bridge began 2012 with a 1-1 away draw
at Osbaldwick and they began 2013 with an identical result at Rawcliffe. A
Reece Chapelow free kick fired Rawcliffe in front with James Hunt salvaging a
point for Stamford
with an equaliser. Thorpe Utd recorded
their first draw in 14 games as they hit two late goals to secure a 3-3 draw in
the Selby derby with hosts Cliffe, Daz Rollinson and Lee Carter (2) were on
target for Cliffe.
As
Division
Three leaders F1 Racing were without a fixture, Bishop Wilton took full
advantage as they trounced Huby 9-0 at home and consequently replaced F1 at the
top of the table. The hosts, undefeated
at home since March 2011, coasted to their biggest win since rejoining league 8
years ago with their tally shared between Michael Woods (2) Gerrard Lepine,
Darren Woodhead, Jason Race, Charlie
Bond and maintaining his record of scoring in every game this season Tom
Knowles with his second hat-trick of the season. Barmby Moor kept in contention
for a promotion place as they extended their unbeaten home run to five games
following their 4-2 win over Selby Olympia with goals from Andrew Saltmer,
Jamie Sedman (2) and an og. Civil Service suffered their first defeat of the
season as they lost 4-3 at home to Rufforth despite taking an early lead
through James Windle. The visitors responded quickly as Graham Rae levelled
before Steve Gagen and Alex Nockles put Rufforth in front but before the break
Windle added his second of the game for the home side. Chris Smith equalised
for the hosts but Daniel Whitcombe hit Rufforth’s winner ten minutes from time
to record a first win for Rufforth over Civil Service in six attempts. Basement
side Elvington moved up four places in the table following their 2-1 win over
Ouseburn 2-1 with goals from Alex Martin and Adam Robertson.

top-of-the-table clash in Division Four went in favour of the
hosts York Acorns who beat LNER Builders 4-0, Chris Ellerker (2) Connor Larner
and Leigh Dutton were all on target for the Acorns who are now unbeaten in 11
games, their last defeat was on the opening day of the season when they were
beaten by the Builders. At the other end of the table Selby Town Res defeated Moor Lane 7-0 in
the bottom-of-the-table-clash with a brace each for Kie Latham, Callum
Rowe-Dixon and Graham Stewart and one from Olly O’Neil . Wheldrake and
Melbourne shared the points in the first goalless draw of the season in the
Division.
Reserve
A Leaders Wigginton
slipped up again at the hands of their bogey side Huntington Rovers – they have
only beaten Huntington
once since 2008 - losing 3-2. Tom
Metcalfe’s early penalty for Grasshoppers was cancelled out by Chris Holmes but
before the break Terry Taylor restored their lead but in the second period the
experience of Graham McDonald proved pivotal for Huntington as he hit their equaliser before
laying on the perfect through ball for Lee Bunce to run onto and slot home for
their winner. It was Wigginton’s first defeat in 18 games and their first home
defeat since April 2011. Old Malton
retained their second position following their 6-2 home win over Haxby but
Wigginton’s biggest threat is from Dunnington who, though they laboured to beat struggling
Riccall, did eventually win 2-1 despite trailing at the break to a Brett
Collier goal. Tom Edwards chipped the Riccall keeper to equalise before a Matty
Wain volley wrapped up the points for Dunnington. The Old Malton goals were
shared between Jack Thackray and Dean Clarkson and a brace each for Adam Newell
and Neil Wilford with Paul Holmes and Andy Carter replying for Haxby. York RI are still looking for their first
away success of the season after losing 3-1 at Copmanthorpe, and that after
Colin Cummings had given them the lead. Stuart Aughton levelled for Cop with a
penalty before the interval and two second half goals from sub Danny Leach
earned Cop the victory.
White
Horse are the new leaders as they extended their unbeaten run to 8 games with a
6-2 win at Heslington, Alex Sutherland and John Hall netted for the hosts. A
Danny Penrose hat-trick helped Fulford to a 4-3 win at Pocklington and keeps
his side with an outside chance of promotion, Joe Kanarski adde3d Fulford’s
fourth with the home goals from Stu Barker (2) and Mike Stacey.
The
leading two sides in Reserve C both won, leaders Malton
& Norton needed a goal five minutes from time at Stamford Bridge to secure all
three points as they won 4-3, Wayne Hazell (2) and Steve Hoggard scored for the
Ryedale side before Darren Branden (2) and Bobby Templeton brought the hosts
level but they suffered a first home defeat in 6 when Matty Reeve hit the late
winner for the Malton side. Second placed Selby RSSC took the points and the
bragging rights as they defeated local rivals Thorpe 2-1 despite James Pearson
giving Thorpe an early lead, Kyle Pool levelled before Jim Darlison celebrated
his Selby debut by hitting their winner. Sean Stewart took his personal tally
for the season to 13 when he put his Rowntrees side in front in the first half
in their encounter with Strensall, Dan
Marshall doubled their lead on their hour mark with Dale Phillips adding their
third on 75 mins before Liam Winfield grabbed a late consolation goal for
Strensall as Rowntrees won 3-1. Hemingbrough recorded back-to-back away wins as
they won 4-0 at Poppleton with goals from Dan Collins, Liam Gautry, Mikey Brown
and Adam Fulcher.
