22ND DECEMBER 2012

In the only Premier League game to go ahead Rowntrees recorded their best away win in the league for over a year as they defeated Hamilton Panthers 6-1. Carl Stewart’s opening goal for Rowntrees was cancelled out by Christian Fox but before the break Stewart restored the visitors lead with Dan Marshall adding a third for Rowntrees. In a second half dominated by the visitors Stewart took his personal tally for the game to four with Marshall adding his second of the afternoon.

In the solitary Division Four game,  Melbourne recorded their first ever home win over LNER Builders since they rejoined the league in 2005. Brian Underwood gave Melbourne the lead at the break and though the Builders levelled on the hour mark, Paul Watson hit what proved to be the winner just ten minutes later. It was also only the third time that   Melbourne had beaten the Builders in their previous 16 League meetings.

Old Malton hit Riccall for five for the second time this season as they followed up their 5-3 win at Riccall three weeks ago by defeating the same opposition 5-0 in the only Reserve A game played. The Ryedale side took control of the game early on with goals from Neil Wilford, Richard Cass, Dean Leadill and Dean Clarkson before Richard Stevenson completed the scoring in the second half.

In Reserve C,  Tockwith ended a  6 match winless run with a 4-3 victory at Rowntrees.  The hosts had the perfect start as Steve Ward struck twice for Rowntrees in the opening half an hour, but the next 30 minutes were bossed by the visitors who replied through Steve Dey, Simon Lewis and John Richardson to lead 3-2. Shaun Stewart briefly restored parity but Dey’s second goal of the afternoon clinched a fourth win on the trot for Tockwith over their hosts.

8th DECEMBER 2012

The top two sides in the York Minster Engineering Premier League both scraped home by the odd goal and to reinforce the two horse race theory the chasing pack failed to collect maximum points.

Premier League leaders Dunnington entertained bottom of the League Hamilton Panthers but it was never going to be the one-sided affair it was last August when Dunnington hit nine past the Panthers. Scott Sullivan hit his 16th league goal of the season to give Dunnington the lead at the interval but second half strikes from Danny Farthing and Mark Willoughby put Panthers in sight of their first win over Dunnington since January 2009. With less than fifteen minutes to go Grant Bulmer levelled for the hosts before Matty Wain secured a 3-2 win for Dunnington in the last five minutes.

Wigginton were seemingly cruising to their fourth straight win over Selby RSSC as they hit four goals in a ten minute spell midway through the first half from Josh Hutchinson, Lee McQuade (2) and Jack Coates. The visitors reduced the deficit but Hutchinson grabbed his second of the game and McQuade completed his hat-trick and though Selby pulled another goal back, Grasshoppers still led 6-2 at the break.  Selby’s Mathew Muscroft kept the Selby side in the game as he scored twice after the interval to add to his first half brace before Kev Butler hit another Wigginton goal but Selby responded with late goals from Shane Caukill and John Page as Wigginton just held onto their 7-6 lead.

Third placed Huntington went down 2-0 at Dringhouses with the hosts scoring twice in five minutes midway through the second half, Robin Jefferson hit their opener and Craig McShane their second while Old Malton failed to score on their travels for the first time since April 2010 as they were held to a goalless draw at Easingwold.

York RI,  who have conceded four goals on their previous three visits to Riccall,  led at the interval with goals from Carl Shepherd and Liam Keenaughan but Gaz Roberts and Paul King brought the home side level before Wayne Brooke converted a penalty as Riccall won 3-2. Nick Moss gave struggling Poppleton the lead at Terrington but Jordan Grose and Alex Yeats, both scoring for the third successive game, swung the game in favour of the hosts before Tom Paley secured as 3-1 win for Terrington. Lee Wilmslow hit the only goal of the game as York St Johns beat Rowntrees 1-0 to move the students away from the relegation zone.

Division One leaders Aviva had to settle for just a point from their visit to Tockwith after the sides drew 1-1, Warren Lowe gave the visitors the lead after 10 minutes with Graham Hutchison equalising 10 minutes into the second half. Malton & Norton’s Marcus Godsell scored for the fourth game on the trot when he gave his side an interval lead in their home encounter with Wilberfoss, Paul Hodgson doubled their advantage before Dave Burrows pulled a goal back for Foss but the Ryedale side took all three points as they won 3-1 with Simon Reeves getting a third goal for the hosts. Amotherby recorded back-to-back away wins for the first time since April 2011 as they followed up their win at St Clements with a 2-1 win at Total Sports despite trailing to a Tom Robinson goal, Andy Phillips and John Dunning were on target for Amotherby. Twice Pocklington lead in their home fixture with Hemingbrough but still failed to record a home win over their rivals in four attempts as they conceded three late goals to eventually lose 5-3.  Tom Hughes (2) and James Saltmer netted for Pock while Hemingbrough, who have failed to beat Pock at home in the same period, replied through Luke Zacharenko, Tom Collins and a hat-trick from Jon Wileman.

Fulford are the new leaders In Division Two after their 2-1 win over Cliffe which extended their unbeaten home run to 8 games. Jordan Siswick and Sam Pepper bagged for Fulford with Lee Carter responding for Cliffe. Osbaldwick notched up their first away win of the season with a 3-1 victory at Bishopthorpe despite Ben Jones, the Divisions joint leading goal scorer,  giving Bish the lead inside the first minute. The O’s hit back after the interval through Andrew Bilton, Harry Cartledge and Tom Wheatlands, the other joint top goal scorer. Strensall suffered their heaviest away defeat since April 2008 as they lost 8-1 at Tadcaster Magnets, the home tally was shared between Adam Standridge (2) Phil Smith (2) Josh Tinkler and a Ben Wilson treble with John Cooper getting the Strensall lone reply. After suffering four straight defeats at the beginning of the season the Rawcliffe recovery continues as they inflicted a first home defeat in four on hosts Thorpe, Adam Tessyman’s opening goal for Thorpe was cancelled out by John Moss before Louis Howarth put Rawcliffe in front. Craig Campbell restored parity but Simon Wilson made it 3-2 to Rawcliiffe as they pushed their unbeaten run to four games.

The top-of-the-table clash in Division Three went in favour of current leaders Bishop Wilton who inflicted a first defeat of the season upon local rivals Barmby Moor and extended their unbeaten home run to 13 matches. Both sides converted early penalties,  Greg Nesbitt for Barmby and  Darren Woodhead for the hosts before Rob Eeles scored twice for Bishop Wilton, Simon Houlder pulled a goal back for the visitors but the result was put beyond doubt two minutes from time with a Tom Knowles penalty who maintains his amazing run of scoring for the 9th game on the trot. It was also Bishop Wilton’s first win over Barmby in 9 meetings. Civil Service and F1 Racing remain in the promotion race as they both hit nine goals past their respective hosts, George Trifian (scoring for the sixth game on the bounce) and Neil Yeowart each scored four times for F1 Racing  in their 9-2 win at Selby Olympia, Rich Proctor completed the F1 tally with Shaun Gandy and Darren Pool replying for the hosts. Civil Service comfortably maintained their unbeaten start to the season as Simon Windle (3) Michael Quinn (2) Chris Smith (2) Gareth Srain and Craig Theaker all found the net at Huby. Simon Hogbin hit the solitary Huby reply. Steve Gagen scored twice for Rufforth in their 3-1 home win over Ouseburn, James Everhard  had earlier equalised for Rufforth. Elvington chalked up their fourth consecutive   away draw as they shared the spoils in the bottom-of the table clash at Crayke. The hosts led through a Tom Hilling brace before the Harriers replied with goals from Neil Alexander, Ben Small and Callum Richardson but Matty Warriner ensured the points were shared with a Crayke equaliser two minutes from time.

Sam Hill hit his third hat-trick of the season in Division Four as his LNER Builders side beat Wheldrake 3-0 and Huntington FC registered their first home win as they defeated Moor Lane 6-2 with their goals coming from Shane Bogg (2) Luke Smith (2) George Huggan and Eric Balderstone.

Dunnington closed the gap on Reserve A leaders Wigginton, who were without a game, and vastly improved their goal difference,  as they hit a dozen unanswered goals past Hamilton Panthers. Rob Hart led the rout with four goals added to goals from Ross Wilkinson (2) Joe Wains, Liam Summers, Matty Phail, Olly Ellwood, Simon Castle and Andy Rose.  Copmanthorpe ended a run of four games without a win in style as they crushed Riccall 7-1, Danny Leach hit four of their tally with two from Mike Revell and one for Tom Settle. Sam Elliott snatched a consolation goal for Riccall. Huntington looked set to record a first win at Old Malton since December 2007 when they led 2-0 at the break,  both from Chris Johnson,  but the hosts hit back through Jack Thackaray (2) Adam Newall and Rob Pinder as the Ryedale side won 4-3, Ali Bell added Huntington’s third goal. Dringhouses came to life in the second half at York RI, after a goal less opening half they ran out 5-1 winners with goals from Sam Kitson, Tom Hawksby, Jimmy Clamp and Dan Clipson (2), Danny Wood replied for RI.

York St Johns moved away from the relegation zone in Reserve B following their 4-1 home win over Bishopthorpe, Graham Vickers had given Bish the lead but the students hit back through Daniel Tingay, Michael Grogan (2) and Darren Jewick. Amotherby came from 2-1 down at home to Tadcaster Magnets to win 4-2 and end a 5 match winless run. Matty Bean hit a double for Amotherby to add to goals from Danny Foxton and Nick Robinson. Aviva are still looking for their first home win of the campaign after they lost 3-1 to Fulford FC, Andy Browes, Jack Heath, and Paul Gordon were on target for the visitors with Andrew Wood getting a late goal for Aviva. Nick Daniels hit the only goal of the game as Pocklington defeated Heslington 1-0.

Reserve C leaders Selby RSSC needed an equaliser from Kyle Pool to salvage a point in their home encounter with Tockwith and despite Ricky Hutton scoring for the third game on the trot his Hemingbrough side are still looking for their first win of the season after losing 4-2 at home to Rowntrees. Stamford Bridge chalked up their sixth straight home win after they beat Poppleton 4-0, Darren Heels hit a goal in each half to add to first half strikes from Tony Downing and John Cavanagh

1st DECEMBER 2012

None of the top four sides in the York Minster Engineering Premier League collected maximum points in a day in which there were fewer postponements than expected considering the assortment of weather during the week.

Premier League Leaders Dunnington were held to a goalless draw at home by Riccall but extend their unbeaten run to 20 games,  the corresponding fixture last season,  also finished all-square.  In virtually a two horse for the Premier League Championship,  Dunnington sit eight points clear of Wigginton but have played two games more. Third placed Huntington suffered a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of the “away-day specialists” Terrington Glory despite taking an early lead through Tom Walters. Jordan Grose levelled for the visitors and Alex Yeats eighth goal of the season proved to be the winner for Terrington who are unbeaten in their last 13 away trips. Fourth placed Copmanthorpe visited a revitalised Hamilton Panthers on the back of three successive away wins but had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Christian Fox’s opener for Panthers was cancelled out by a Ben Sheehan penalty, the Cop Keepers third spot kick success this season. It was Cop’s first away draw in 23 games, their previous draw was also at Panthers, in April 2011. A goal in each half, the first from Danny Fogg , the second from Dean Nuttall secured a 2-0 home win for Old Malton against Dringhouses.

Many of the Aviva players attended Mark Benton’s wedding yesterday but none appeared worse for wear, (including the Groom !)  as Division One leaders Aviva pushed their unbeaten home run to 7 games with a  2-0 home win over Total Sports. A fortuitous deflection separated the sides at the break before Neil Richardson wrapped up the points with his eighth goal of the season. Tockwith failed to score an away goal for the third game on the trot as they lost 2-0 at Malton & Norton, on target for the Ryedale side were Marcus Godsell, scoring for the third game on the bounce, and Kingsley Daffern

All three games in Division Two went in favour of the hosts, Heslington were three goals up inside 10 minutes in their encounter with Thorpe before eventually winning 10-3 and as a consequence move to the top of the table. The double figure tally included a hat-trick for Alex Sutherland, a brace each for John Pipe and Dave Ingle and one each from Andy Gray and Lee and Danny Topping. Osbaldwick extended their unbeaten home run to 4 games with a 4-3 win over Strensall and in doing so inflicted a first defeat of the season on their opponents.   The O’s raced into three goal lead through Ellis Turbine and two goals from Tom Wheatlands before a Strensall rally which was aided by two own goals, Jack Wilson levelled for the visitors before Nick Lawrie hit the  Osbaldwick winner. Cliffe move out of the relegation zone after their 3-1 home win over Bishopthorpe, Tom Hogg struck twice for the hosts with their third from Paul Tanton.

As Division Three leaders Bishop Wilton were without a fixture the chasing pack of three all took the opportunity to move three points closer. Barmby Moor moved into a second place on goal difference,  after they hit eight unanswered goals past struggling Crayke. Their tally was shared between Chris Tatterton (2) Will Nicholson, Simon Houlder, Jamie Sedman, Curtis Brooke, Andrew Palfreyman and Alex Downey.  F1 Racing slip down to third place despite their 3-1 win at Ouseburn. Richard Dwight,  who has netted 10 of the 12 Ouseburn goals this season, gave the home side an early lead but Neil Yeowart levelled before the break, George Trifan, scoring for the sixth consecutive game put F1 in front and the win was confirmed as Yeowart hit his second of the match.  Fourth placed Civil Service trailed to an early goal at home to Selby Olympia but hit back through Craig Theaker and Chris Smith to win 2-1 and maintain their unbeaten start to the season. Rufforth and Elvington shared the points for the second season running as they drew 4-4, Daniel Whitcombe, Connor Hares, James Everhard and Steve Gagen bagged for Rufforth with Neil Alexander, Ben Small, Tim Carrington and Sam Martin doing likewise for the Harriers.

Division Four leaders York Acorn came from 2-1 down to eventually win 8-2 at Wheldrake with half their tally from Leigh Dutton, brother Andy, scoring for the fourth game on the trot weighed in with a brace and their scoring was completed with a goal each from Lee Jacobs and Jordan Pearce, Steve Rawlinson and Jason McCloud replied for Wheldrake. LNER Builders kept their promotion hopes alive with a 4-2 win in an entertaining game at Moor Lane.  Nathan Berry gave the hosts the lead after just five minutes but in a 20 minute spell the visitors hit three goals before James Shaw reduced the arrears before the break but Builders confirmed their third away win on the trot with a fourth goal three minutes from time, Sam Hill and Dean Machin shared the Builder goals.  Melbourne registered their first home win since 3rd December 2011 with a 1-0 win over Huntington FC, Jamie Sellars hit the all important goal in the second half.

The top-of-the-table-clash in Reserve A finished all square just like they did last season,  as Dunnington drew 4-4 at Wigginton.  Grasshoppers, unbeaten in their previous 15 home games led through Craig Huggins and a Tom Metcalfe penalty before Steve Haddin reduced the arrears.  Rob Orr restored Wigginton’s two goal cushion but a Rob Hart goal just before the break ensured Dunnington were still in the game. Dave Thompson made it 4-2 but another Hart goal and a second from Haddin ensured the spoils were shared and Dunningtons unbeaten run of 22 games continues. Wigginton were the last team to defeat Dunnington in September 2011.  Dringhouses cruised to their first win over Haxby since January 2006 as they won 6-0 with their goals shared between James Kilmartin, Luke Whittaker, Sam Kitson, Tom Haws Stuart Jenkins and Sam Clipton. Old Malton hit five goals at Riccall for the second successive season as they won 5-3 with a double each from Jack Thackray and Dean Leadill and one from Adam Newall, Jim Darlison, Jake Garner and Trev Robinson replied for Riccall.  York RI avenged last seasons 7-2 mauling at the hands of Hamilton Panthers with a 8-0 drubbing of the same opposition, Dave McNichol hit four of their goals to add to a Danny Wood treble and one from Dave Clarke.

White Horse moved within a point of Reserve B leaders Easingwold after their 3-2 home win over Heslington, Jake Longstaff scored twice for the  Church Fenton side to add to a Tom Parnaby strike. Adam Lewis hit both Fulford’s goals in their 2-1 home win over Tadcaster while Ash Newton hit a hat-trick for Pocklington as they defeated Bishopthorpe 5-3, Mike Stacey and Nick Daniels completed the Pock scoring.

The top-of-the-table clash in Reserve C went comfortably in favour of Selby RSSC as they defeated Poppleton 5-2, the Selby side led at the break courtesy of a Kyle Pool brace and increased their lead further through Rich Milner and Janos Takacs before Danny Barrett scored twice for Pop but Josh Knowles late goal ended any hope for Pop. As a result of Poppleton’s defeat Malton & Norton move into second place following their 5-3 victory at Tockwith, Ed Marwood,  Joe Jefferson (2),  Nigel Allen and Steve Hoggard shared the Ryedale sides goals with Scott Poulter (2) and Henry Burton replying for Tockwith. Jamie Broughton (2) scored for the third game on the trot as his Thorpe side beat Wilberfoss 4-1, Chris Allen replied for Foss with Glen Littlewood and Matty Pearce completing the scoring for the Selby side.

Reserve D Leaders Crayke maintained their 100% record but only just as Glen Forester scored the only goal as Crayke beat Rufforth 1-0. Civil Service’s last away defeat was on the 3rd December last year and despite falling behind to a Tom Wood goal at Bishop Wilton they eventually ensured their record exceeds a year as they won 4-2, Ross Dixon’s first of his two goals brought Civil Service level before Mark Lund and Declan Parks added further goals for Civil Service with Will Steele adding a late goal for the hosts. Chris Rowan scored twice for St Clements in their 7-0 win at Cliffe, Gareth Moore, Joe Hamilton, Ricky Murray, Tom Perkins and Adam Harrison completed the Saints tally.

NOVEMBER 24th 2012

Only a handful of League matches in each Division survived the combination of York FA Cup ties and waterlogged pitches.

The only York Minster Premier League fixture to be played  was at Copmanthorpe where the hosts came from a goal down to win 4-1 against Dringhouses.    Liam Stilgoe converted a penalty midway through the first half to put Dringhouses in front but before the break parity was restored courtesy of a John Patrick effort. Danny Snaith gave Cop the lead and two goals in the final quarter-of-an-hour from Robin Bedford secured all three points for Cop to move them into fourth place in the table,

The top two sides in Division One suffered mixed fortunes, leaders Aviva maintained their unbeaten home record for the season with a 3-0 win over Haxby whilst second placed St Clements suffered their first defeat in 7 as they lost by the same score-line at home to Amotherby,

A first half goal from Lee Downham gave Aviva the lead at the interval and visitors Haxby were still in the match until ten minutes from time when Downham doubled his tally for the game and Adam Osguthorpe added Aviva’s third.

St Clements trailed at half-time to an Andy Phillips brace before Amotherby confirmed their first win in four as Matty Webster added their third and move Amotherby out of the relegation zone.  Pocklington slipped to their third successive home defeat as they lost 2-1 to Total Sports Utd, Dan Walton headed the visitors in front in the first half and Tom Robinson doubled the lead with John Parsons reducing the deficit for the hosts 20 minutes from time.

In the only fixture played in Division Two Heslington missed the chance to go top of the table as they were beaten 2-1 at home by basement side Stamford Bridge. The visitors,  without a win in four, broke the deadlock midway through the second half through Nick Rank, Stuart Dickenson levelled for Heslington with a penalty but Jamie Rank hit the Stamford winner just five minutes from time.

Division Three leaders Bishop Wilton extended their unbeaten run to 7 games following their 3-0 win at Huby with all the goals coming in the first half. Tom Knowles maintained his incredible sequence of scoring in every game with a brace to add to a Rob Beeles goal. Richard Dwight scored both Ouseburns’s goals in their 2-0 home win over Rufforth.

The top three sides in Division Four were all on the road and all collected points though leaders York Acorn, having hit double figures only last week against Moor Lane,  had to settle for just a point in the return encounter. Goals either side of the interval from Wilson Briggs and Andy Dutton gave Acorn a two-goal cushion but two goals from James Shaw saw the sides draw 2-2. Second placed Tadcaster Town,  with goals from Adam Field, Marcell Edwards and Will Leatt won 3-1 at Melbourne with Dave Phelan bagging for the hosts, whilst third in the table LNER Builders found themselves three goals down inside the first ten minutes at Wheldrake. Steve Laidlaw and Sam Hill, the Division top goal-scorer,  reduced the arrears before the break and in the second half Hill completed his hat-trick as Builders won 4-3. George Freeman and Steve Rawlinson (2) had earlier put Wheldrake in front.

Wigginton, the runaway leaders in Reserve A,  were involved in a well contested derby game with Haxby but it was the Grasshoppers that took the bragging rights for the second time this season. Jay Bell’s opener for Haxby was cancelled out by Craig Huggins before Jamie Wilstrop struck twice for Wigginton with Dan Hilton snatching a late goal for Haxby as Wigginton just edged it 3-2. Tom Hawksby hit a goal in each half for Dringhouses as they defeated Copmanthorpe 2-0 to register their first win of the season.

Easingwold Town the Reserve B Leaders have opened up a four point lead at the top of the table following their 3-1 win at Amotherby on the score-sheet for Easingwold were Dave Adams, Will Bell and John Day. Aviva recorded their first win over York St Johns at the fourth time of asking after they beat the students 2-1, Dave Butchart, scoring for the fourth game on the bounce gave the Insurance side the lead with Jamie Dunwoody adding their second.

Selby RSSC moved to the top of Reserve C after their narrow win over Rowntrees, the sides met in September and shared a dozen goals but a John Pierre Grenier goal was just enough this time round as the Selby side won 1-0.

In Reserve D Lewis Chipchase scored twice for Tadcaster Town as they defeated F1 Racing 3-2, Lucas Owen completed the scoring for Taddy.
