With
the York
Minster Engineering Premier League leaders Dunnington without a game, Wigginton Grasshoppers took full advantage to
move within five points of the leaders after they won 3-1 at Old Malton, and
against a side that they have failed to beat since March 2008.
The
visitors led at the break courtesy of an early Jamie Wilstrop effort and only
the agility of Grasshoppers keeper Michael Clancy denied the Ryedale side an
equaliser. Within four minutes of the resumption they had doubled their lead as
Lee McQuade struck his 24th league goal of the season and though Scott
Preston pulled a goal back within two minutes for the hosts , Kev Butler confirmed the Wigginton win with
their third 20 minutes from time.
Riccall
recorded their first win at Copmanthorpe since their promotion to the Premier
League four years ago. They lead through a fortuitous own goal which was later
cancelled out by Matty Pallister but Riccall pinched all three points with a
last minute winner from Andy Addison. Huntington completed the
double over Poppleton as they followed up their 4-1 home win with a 3-1 victory
at Poppleton. Chris Dyson hit their opener with Marc Thompson scoring twice in
the second half. Easingwold
Town ended a run of 11
games without a win as they won 3-2 at Selby RSSC.
The
hosts, looking for their first home win of the season, led 2-0 at the break with goals from Matty
Musgrave and Louis Blackwell but the visitors hit back in the second period
with goals from Ben Stirk, George Kirk and Ben Tilley. Another side to excel in the second half was
York RI, they trailed 1-0 at the break at home to Rowntrees but totally
outplayed their opponents in the second period to win 7-2, Nick Hutchinson,
Cameron Sanderson, Lee Powell (2) Liam Keenaghan (2) and Craig Atkinson shared
their tally.
The
clash between two of the struggling sides,
York St Johns and Hamilton Panthers,
was settled in favour of the students with Daniel Tingay heading the
only goal of the game after just two minutes.
Division
One leaders Aviva
travelled to second in the table St Clements with both sides looking for their
first win in three games, a Tom Shirley goal in the first quarter-of-an-hour
saw Aviva to a 1-0 win and the luxury of a 10 point advantage at the top of the
table. Church Fenton White Horse suffered their first defeat in six games as
they lost at Total Sports, the hosts let slip a two goal lead before eventually
winning 5-2 with a hat-trick from Ben Brannigan to add to strikes from Tom
Robinson and Amos Laverack. White Horse have now failed to beat their hosts in
their last seven meetings. Basement side Wilberfoss secured their second
successive away draw as they shared the spoils with hosts Tockwith, Andy Walker
gave Tockwith an early lead and though Foss missed a penalty Ian Cappleman
levelled for Wilberfoss. Amotherby & Swinton’s away form is certainly
keeping them out of the relegation zone and they collected their fourth away
win of the season with a comfortable 6-1 win at Pocklington, Mike Lindsay hit a
treble for the visitors to add to a Andy Phillips brace and one from George
Moore. Malton & Norton trailed to a Matt Wash goal at Haxby but replied
with goals from Kevin Oxendale, Marcus Godsell and Ryan Revis to win 3-2,
Darren Storey hit the second Haxby goal.
Division
Two is arguably
the closest of all the Divisions with realistically all of the sides still in
contention for promotion and relegation. Leaders Fulford succumbed to two goals
from Scott Pallister at Rawcliffe who are now unbeaten in 7, as they lost 2-1, Matty Newsham replied for
Fulford. Second placed Heslington
conceded three goals in the first fifteen minutes in their game at Bishopthorpe
and all to Ben Jones, Lee Topping and Alex Sutherland did eventually reduce the
deficit but Bish won 3-2 to end a run of six games without a win.
Bishopthorpe’s last win was at Heslington. Osbaldwick are the new leaders
following their 2-1 success at Thorpe despite Craig Pickles giving Thorpe the
lead at the interval, Nick Lawrie and Tom Wheatlands struck second half goals
for the O’s. Stamford Bridge are still looking for their first home win of the
season after losing 4-2 to Strensall and that after John Cavangh and Jordan
Elliot had given the hosts a 2-1 lead. Jack Wilson, John Cooper, Danny Mason
and Mick Pipe shared the Strensall response.
The
top four sides in Division Three all collected points on their travels, leaders
Bishop Wilton, despite Tom Knowles
drawing a blank in front of goal for the first time this season, extended their
unbeaten run into double figures with a 6-1 win at Selby Olympia with four
goals for Charlie Bond and two for Michael Wood. The Selby reply came from
Shaun Gandy. Second placed F1 Racing led twice at Rufforth, initially from Richard
Proctor and then through George Trifan- scoring for the eighth game on the
bounce - but had to settle for a point
as the hosts equalised with goals from Steve Gagen and Phil Jones. Third in the
table Barmby Moor won 5-0 at Huby while Civil Service kept in touch with the
leaders with an emphatic 8-3 win at Crayke. On target for Civil Service were
Tom Wright, Chris Smith and two each for Gareth Inness, James Windle and
Michael Quinn while Jack Cartwright, Matty Dixon and Dan Smith shared the home
goals. The Divisions draw specialists Elvington chalked up their fifth away
draw from their last six trips as they drew 2-2 at Sporting Knavesmire,
Alex
Martin restored parity after George Winfield’s opening goal for Sporting and
after Dan Smith had given the hosts the lead Edmund Houldridge levelled for
Elvington.
The
form book ran true in Division Four with comfortably wins
for the leading trio over the bottom three sides, leaders York Acorn pushed
their unbeaten run to a dozen games after they beat Moor Lane 5-1, Connor
Larner (2), Stefan Littlewood, Andy
Dutton all scored for Acorns before 49 year old Steve Whatmore made a brief
appearance and netted, Rob Whittaker grabbed a consolation for Moor Lane.
Second placed Tadcaster
Town ran amok at home to
Wheldrake winning 11-2, their tally was shared between Adam Field (4) Lee
Murphy (2) Marcel Edwards, Ricky Longbottom, Tony Weatherill, John Darson and
the obligatory own goal. Richard Orr and Jason McCloud shared the token
response from Wheldrake. Third placed LNER Builders eased to a 7-2 home win
over Huntington FC, the Divisions leading scorer Sam Hill hit a hat-trick to
add to goals from Dan Shaw (2), Andy
Hurran and Gary Hardcastle. The two
sides in the middle of the table, Melbourne and Selby
Town, predictably drew, Liam Booth gave Melbourne the lead before Callum Dixon—Rowe equalised for
Selby, it was Melbourne’s
first home draw in 16 games while it was the first ever draw for Selby since
joining the league last season.
Reserve
A leaders Wigginton extended their lead at the top of the
table following their 5-1 win at basement side Hamilton Panthers but they had
to come from a goal down before Rob Orr scored four times after the interval to
confirm the win. Earlier Danny Lamb had equalised for Grasshoppers after Neil
Hartley had given Panthers the lead. Old
Malton looked well on track to register a third straight win over Dringhouses
after two first half goals from Richard Stevenson had given the Ryedale side
the lead but Dringhouses rallied with three goals in the space of 15 second
half minutes to win 3-2, Tom Hawksby started the revival quickly followed by
Wayne Carter and Lee Bond. The last time Haxby defeated Huntington
was in April 2010 but the record never looked likely to be improved as Huntington coasted to a
8-1 win with Lee Bunce leading the rout with a hat-trick to add to goals
from Gaz Hurst, Ali Horseman, Dave
Moyer, Charlie Coupland and Chris Holmes with Paul Holmes hitting the solitary
Haxby reply. In Huntington’s
only other home fixture this season they also won 8-1. Riccall, without a win in five, entertained York RI who
were looking for their first away win of the season and it was the visitors
that ended their wait as goals from Mark Powell and Josh Coulson helped them
earn a 2-1 win, Tom Osborne hit the Riccall goal.
Fulford
FC Utd kept in touch with the Reserve B leaders as they chalked up
their third away win on the trot despite falling behind to a Aidan Bardy goal
at Heslington. Mark Radcliffe levelled for Fulford before Ben Bailey converted
two penalties as Fulford won 3-1. Aviva slipped back into the relegation zone
after they lost 5-1 at home to Pocklington, James Marshall, Ryan Gargett, Stu
Barker and Ash Newton twice netted for Pocklington with Neil Huntington hitting
the Aviva goal.

Marwood hit a hat-trick as Reserve C leaders Malton &
Norton extended their unbeaten run into double figures with a 5-1 win at
Strensall. Matty Reeves and Zac Hall completed the Ryedale sides nap hand with
Jamie Lawrence replying with a penalty for Strensall. Wilberfoss moved off the
foot of the table for the first time this season as they ended a run of 17
games without a win as they defeated local rivals Stamford Bridge 4-2, two
goals from James Parkin fired Foss into an early lead before the visitors drew
level through Darren Burke and an og but Foss went into the break leading 3-2
thanks to a Jon Parkin strike but their first win since November 2011 was
confirmed in the second half with a Matt Holme goal. Stamford Bridge
won the reverse fixture 4-2.

winning 2-0 with both goals coming from Aide Wood, it was Hemingbrough’ s first

had little difficulty in extending their unbeaten home run to six games as they
hit five unanswered goal past Rufforth, or target for the hosts were Mark Lund,
Gareth Srain, Olly Cook, Lee Richardson
and Lewis Hardy. Bishop Wilton ended a run of 7 games without a win as they
defeated visitors Huby 3-2 despite two goals from Richard Webster putting Huby
in front at 2-1. The visitors, looking
for their first away win after seven successive defeats, conceded goals to Oliver Riley, Will Slater
and Mathew Beckitt. Bishop Wilton had failed to record a win over Huby in their previous seven meetings.
