Saturday 20th October 2012

York Minster Engineering Premier League leaders, Dunnington had to come from a goal down at home to Huntington to push their unbeaten run to 17 games and in the process have extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to an impressive seven points.

Visitors Huntington was undefeated on their last four away trips and took the lead when a slide-rule through ball from Chris Dyson found Chris Johnson who made no mistake in putting the visitors in front. The second half was barely a minute old before Scott Sullivan equalised and the win was secured 10 minutes from time by Jimmy Wilmoth. Defending Champions Old Malton suffered their first defeat on the road in 22 games as they lost 2-1 at Dringhouses. The Ryedale side took an early lead courtesy of a Richard Dunning free kick but then conceded an own goal just before the break. With five minutes remaining it looked as though Malton were going to record their third consecutive draw but  Liam Stilgoe scored direct from a corner to give Dringhouses maximum points. Old Malton’s last away defeat was in April 2011 at Dringhouses!  Poppleton were unfortunate not to collect at least a point from their visit to Copmanthorpe, a Mark Featherstone goal separated the sides at the break in favour of the hosts, Nick Moss levelled in the second period but two Robin Bedford goals in the last six minutes earned Cop a 3-1 win and a 12th game without a win for Pop.

Aviva won the top-of-the-table clash in Division One as they defeated Pocklington 3-1, after a goalless first half the deadlock was broken by an unstoppable volley from Neil Richardson, Warren Lowe doubled their lead from the penalty spot and though Dan O‘Connor pulled a goal back for Pock with three minutes to go, Avia still had time to add a third as Tom Shirley chipped the home keeper. St Clements marked their first home fixture of the season with a 5-2 win over Haxby, the Saints nap hand was shared between Jordan Hornby, Liam King, Scott Nicholas, Danny Adam and Chris Rowan while Haxby, who were leading 2-1 at one stage,  replied through James Gilbertson and Mathew Wash. Malton & Norton needed a second half penalty from Chris Hodgson to preserve their 19 match unbeaten run as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Hemingbrough. Harry Jackson had earlier given the visitors the lead. Amotherby celebrated their first win in eight games as they won 3-2 at Tockwith with goals from Ryan Boyd (2) and Andy Philips, the hosts replied with a goal in each half from Andy Walker and Graham Hutchinson. Wilberfoss remain rooted to the foot of the table as they lost 3-1 at Total Sports, Daniel Palmer and Dean Walker scored in the first half for the home side and though Robin Walker halved the deficit, Ben Brannigan scoring for the fourth game on the trot,  sealed the win.

Fulford are the new leaders in Division Two after they recorded their second successive 3-0 win as they beat Heslington with goals from Sam Harrison, Ashley Hope and Andrew Browse. Five of the last eight home wins by Fulford have been by a 3-0 score-line. Rawcliffe were very much indebted to the performance of defender Jack Blackmore as they  collected their first points of the season with a 1-0 win at Bishopthorpe,  a Paul Branscombe penalty been the only goal of the game.

Division Three leaders Barmby Moor dropped their first points of the season as they were held 0-0 at Sporting Knavesmire, it was Barmby’s first away draw in 14 games. Bishop Wilton extended their unbeaten home run into double figures after they drew 1-1 with Elvington, Tom Knowles, scoring for the fourth game on the trot.  gave the hosts a half-time lead before James Hampshire levelled for the Harriers. Selby Olympia are still looking for their first win of the season after their 3-2 home defeat to Ouseburn, Richard Dwight, Alex Croft and Ben Jones netted for the visitors.

Tadcaster Town maintained their 100% record in Division Four with a 6-1 win at Moor Lane with goals from Will Deakin, George Hardy and a brace each for Adam Field and Tom Deighton. Ben Overton replied for Moor Lane. Two Connor Larne penalties helped York Acorn to a 3-0 home win over Selby Town Res, Andy Dutton added their third while Melbourne and LNER Builders shared the spoils for the fourth time in six meetings as the sides drew 2-2, Jake Winspear and Paul Hunter were on target for Melbourne with Sam Hill getting both Builders goals. It was also the first draw in 15 games for both sides, the Builders last draw was the corresponding week-end last year - the 22nd October 2011.

The top-of-the-table clash In Reserve A went in favour of the  leaders Wigginton who beat Copmanthorpe 1-0, Player-Manager Mark Scoreby scoring  the only goal of the game ten minutes from time. Grasshoppers, unbeaten in 11 games at home, have now opened up an eight point lead at the top of the table. Dunnington picked up their game in the second half at Hamilton Panthers, leading by the odd goal in five at the break they eventually won 10-2 and extended their unbeaten run to 20 games. An improved second half performance also saw York RI run out comfortable winners at the expense of visitors Huntington, Ali Bell had given Huntington an early lead but though the sides went into the interval at 1-1,  York RI went onto win  9-2 with their tally shared between Dave Clarke (3) Lee Powell (2) Danny Wood (2)   Simon Marshall and Shaun Stockdale. Kieran Flanagan added a late strike for the visitors. Haxby registered their first draw in 21 games as a topsy-turvey game with Old Malton finished 4-4, twice the visitors lead in the first half and twice the hosts led in the second period. The Ryedale goals came from Dean Clarkson, Dean Leadill and a brace from Richard Stevenson with the home goals from  Tom Kilvington and an Andy Carter hat-trick.

Easingwold extended their lead at the top of Reserve B as they defeated Bishopthorpe 4-1 and their two nearest rivals both suffered away defeats. Easingwold raced into a three goal lead before the break through Andrew Metcalfe (Snr) Will Bell and Richard Durant  with Metcalfe adding a second after the break. Despite Steve Cooper hitting four goals for second placed Fulford at Amotherby his side still lost as Matty Bean struck a hat-trick and George Everatt a brace for the hosts as Amotherby ended a run of three draws on the trot with a 5-4 victory. Third placed Pocklington lost 4-3 at White Horse as the Church Fenton side recorded their first win over Pock in five attempts. John Worsnop hit a treble for White Horse to add to a Kyle Hesling goal. Goals from Joe Broughton and Dave Butchart looked to be setting up a first win of the season for Aviva but late strikes from Daniel Tinghe and Nick Wiseman secured a first draw in a dozen games for York St Johns as the match ended 2-2.

Poppleton made it 3 wins from 3 in Reserve C as a goal in each half, the first from Craig Suttle, the second from Jack Chliton,  secured a 2-0 win over Selby RSSC.  Rowntrees move into second place after they came from 3-2 down and 4-3 down before eventually overhauling Wilberfoss to win 6-4 with a hat-trick from Shaun Stewart, two from Dan Marshall and one from Carl Thompson. The Wilberfoss tally was shared between, Jono Parkin, Roy Page, Dave Laverack and Elliot Newby. Zac Tobin gave his Tockwith side the lead inside a minute at Stamford Bridge but they could not hold onto their advantage as Tony Downing levelled and Darren Burke hit the winner as Stamford Bridge won 2-1. Saturday 13th October 2012

It was a good day for Dunnington,  the York Minster Engineering Premier League leaders,  as they were the only side in the top 6 to collect maximum points.
Dunnington had little difficulty in extending their unbeaten run to 16 games as they hit five past Easingwold without reply. Jimmy Wilmoth started the ball rolling with their opener and before the break Scott Stewart and Tom Mathews had increased their lead.  After the break Stewart netted his second of the game and John Andrew completed the rout. It was the third time in 5 meetings that Dunnington had hit five goals past Easingwold. Huntington Rovers,  like Wigginton and Old Malton before them,  suffered at the hands of the away-day specialists Copmanthorpe as Robin Bedford scored a goal in each half to earn Cop a creditable 2-0 away victory. In League fixtures,  Copmanthorpe have only won at Huntington three times in the last 10 years and on each occasion they have won 2-0.  Old Malton needed a last minute goal from Robbie Baker to secure their second successive draw as they drew 3-3 at home to Terrington. Mikey Brown gave the visitors an early lead which was cancelled out before the break by Scott Preston, Dan Fogg, scoring for the fourth game on the trot, then put Old Malton in front but Brown hit his second of the game before Jordan Grose made it 3-2 to the visitors but the spoils were shared as Baker levelled deep into injury time. Terrington are unbeaten on their last 11 away trips. Selby RSSC moved away from the relegation zone following their 4-2 win at Poppleton and condemn their hosts to their 11th game without a win. James Barrett and Louis Blackwell shared the Selby goals with Alex Janes and Jon Beech who had earlier give Pop the lead,  replying for the hosts. Basement side Hamilton Panthers conceded a goal in each half as they lost 2-0 at home to Dringhouses, Dave Watson and Craig McShane were on target for ‘Houses. For the fourth successive meeting when Rowntrees have entertained York RI.  the score-line finished 3-2, on this occasion though it was in RI’s favour, Stu Nichol gave RI the early advantage but before the interval parity was restored courtesy of a Chris Horwell penalty. Luke Laverack gave the home side the lead just before the hour mark before Lee Powell levelled and eight minutes from time Darren Sellars secured a third away win on the trot for RI.

No change at the top of Division One as the top two sides both recorded 3-1 victories, leaders Aviva hit three first half goals through Warren Lowe (pen),  Neil Richardson and Tom Shirley in their home encounter with Hemingbrough,  with Luke Zacharenko snatching a late consolation goal for the visitors in the last five minutes. Second placed Pocklington trailed to a James Gilbertson goal at Haxby but hit three goals in the space of 10 minutes late in the game to win 3-1. St Clements dropped two points on the leading duo but trailing 3-0 at Total Sports well into the second period the 3-3 draw was probably a point saved. After a goal-less opening half Dan Horsley, Ben Brannigan (pen) and Dan Palmer fired the hosts into a three goal lead before the Saints finally rallied with late goals from Danny Adams, Kenny Sharman and Bobby Clapham. Malton & Norton kept in touch with the leading sides as they chalked up their 18th game without defeat despite been twice behind at Wilberfoss before eventually winning 3-2. Dave Burrows opener was cancelled out by  Chris Hodgson and Sam Hall equalised for the Ryedale side after Mark Hughes had put Foss in front again before Marcus Godsell struck for the third game on the bounce to confirm the win. White Horse pushed their unbeaten home run to 12 games as they defeated Amotherby 3-2, John Langrick, John Marshall and Jake Longstaff were on target for the Church Fenton side with Matty Bean and Matty Webster replying for Amotherby.

Division Two leaders Fulford,  defending an unbeaten run of 12 games travelled to Tadcaster Magnets who were protecting an unbeaten home run of 18 games and a goal in each half,  the first from Josh Crawley the second from Ben Wilson settled the issue in Tadcaster’s favour. Despite the defeat Fulford retain top spot but only on goal difference from Strensall who needed an own goal two minutes from time to secure a 4-3 win at out-of-luck Rawcliffe. Three times Strensall lead through Jack Wilson (2) and Liam Winfield but on each occasion Rawcliffe produced an equaliser, first through Paul Bransicombe, then Danny Coulson and finally John Moss but Rawcliffe,   looking for their first point of the season, had no answer to the own goal they conceded in the 89th minute.  Both games last season between Osbaldwick and Thorpe were settled by a single goal but the O’s had no intention of running it as close again as they hit five unanswered goals past Thorpe which included a Tom Wheatlands hat-trick and a goal a piece from Andrew Bilton and Adam Burton.
Bishopthorpe recorded their best away win in over ten years as they thrashed a weakened Heslington side 9-0, with their tally made up of goals from Ben Jones (4) Joe Gardham (3) Jordan Annette and an og.

Barmby Moor are the new leaders in Division Three following their 4-0 home win over Huby and a first away win in over a year for Civil Service at the previous League leaders Rufforth. Nik Palfreyman, Chris Tatterton (2) and Simon Houlder were all on target for Barmby as they maintained their 100% start to the season. Alex Knockles gave Rufforth the lead in their home match with Civil Service but before the break James Windle had scored four times for the visitors, Daniel Whitcombe and Ryan Williamson helped a Rufforth revival but a Gareth Innes goal secured a 5-3 win for Civil Service who have not lost to Rufforth in their previous five meetings.. Sporting Knavesmire suffered their first home defeat since March 2011 (9 games) as they let slip a 2-1 lead to lose 3-2 at home to Bishop Wilton, Scott Backhouse and Ali Brown shared the Sporting goals with Tom Brown, an og and Tom Knowles replying for the victorious visitors.    In the bottom of the table clash between Selby Olympia and Elvington, Selby’s Ryan Taylor turned villain and hero, he firstly gifted Alex Martin Elvington’s goal but then shortly afterwards hit a superb volley to level the scores as the game finished 1-1.   A George Trifan hat-trick helped F1 Racing extended their unbeaten run into double figures with a 3-0 win at Crayke.

After the opening few weeks in Division Four, four teams share the lead on 6 points while the remaining four sides  are all equal on three points. Goals from Jon Wileman (2) Nathan Patrick and Steve Allen helped Selby Town to make it 2 wins from 2 as they defeated Huntington FC 4-2, Shane Bogg and Aaran Rose responded for Huntington and Tadcaster Town have an identical record to Selby following their 5-0 win at LNER Builders which included a  Tom Deighton brace added to goals from Adam Field. Will Leaft and Ricky Longbottom. York Acorn hit four late goals at Melbourne to seal a 7-2 win, Connor Larne led the rout with four goals to add to strikes from the Dutton brothers Lee (2) and Andy. Jamie Sellars and Sheridan Fletcher replied for the hosts.  When Ben Feathers put Wheldrake in front at Moor Lane it looked like the visitors would end a run of 18 away trips without a win but John Hurst levelled with a penalty and Oliver Craske spoilt their party as Moor Lane ended a 6 match winless run with a 2-1 victory

In Reserve A, leaders Wigginton pushed their unbeaten run to 9 games with a comfortable 4-0 win at York RI which included two penalties from Tom Metcalfe. Eddie Clapham and Craig Huggins completed the Wiggy tally. Copmanthorpe remain five points adrift of the leaders following their 5-1 home success over Dringhouses, the visitors were still in the game shortly after the break when Joe Gallaway equalised but Cop stepped up a gear and Matty Baker hit his second of the afternoon before Stu Aughton, Stephen Purdy and Matty Bastock all found the back of the visitors net. Haxby were still on level terms at Riccall with ten minutes to go but the hosts smashed four late goals to win 5-1, Lawrence Walsh, Darren Davis, Jim Darlison (2)  and Trevor Robinson bagged for the home side while Nathan Green replied for Haxby.

Fulford suffered their first defeat in Reserve B as they lost 3-2 at York St Johns despite leading with goals from Mark Ratcliffe and bizarrely their keeper Callum Atkinson. A long punt down the field from Atkinson created panic and confusion in the students defence with the result that the ball sailed over the home keeper. However the students recovered before the break to draw level with goals from James Peavoy and James Long with Sam Burton clinching a first win of the season for St John’s with virtually the last kick of the game. Easingwold are the new leaders after their 2-1 win at Bishopthorpe, Bobby Taylor netted for Bish and goals from Tom Everatt and Callum Dunning earned Amotherby a third consecutive draw of the season as they drew 2-2 with Heslington.

Rowntrees striker Dan Marshall hit four goals for his side in their Reserve C fixture at Tockwith and still finished on the losing side as they lost 5-4. Simon Lewis, Andy Walker, Dean Poulter and Graham Hutchinson shared the  Tockwith nap hand. Thorpe recorded their first win of the season as they defeated Stamford Bridge 4-2, Jamie Broughton and Bryon Summers shared the Thorpe goals with Bobby Templeton hitting both the visitors.

A hat-trick each for Steve Johnstone and Matty Bilham helped Crayke maintain their 100% record as they won 6-2 at Tadcaster Town and also edge out Civil Service to go top of the table in Reserve D. Lee Quickmire and Keith Hunter scored for the Town. Civil Service have also an unbeaten record this term which they preserved with a 3-2 home win over St Clements, Ross Dixon, Gareth Strain and Tom Campbell were on the home score sheet while John Dale hit both goals for the Saints.  Wheldrake registered their first win at the third time of asking as they defeated Bishop Wilton 3-2, Calvin Steel (2) and Campbell Thompson, both 16 year olds,  struck the Wheldrake goals whilst Bishop Wilton’s reply was an Alex Gould brace.

Saturday 6th October 2012

As the top three sides in the York Minster Engineering Premier League all recorded wins there was no change at the top of the table.

Leaders Dunnington stretched their unbeaten run to 15 games as they defeated Dringhouses 5-1. Josh Tattersall scored twice in the first half for the hosts and though Craig McShane pulled a goal back for Dringhouses the win was confirmed with second half goals from Grant Bulmer, Luke Dove and a Tom Richards penalty. Damian Cox put the Ryedale side in front but two goals in as many minutes from Tom Hairyes saw the students leading only for Scott Preston to restore parity from the penalty spot before the break. After the break a Danny Fogg goal was cancelled out by  Harry Hewson before a second penalty of the game for Preston restored Old Malton’s lead again but Hairyes completed his hat-trick with virtually the last kick of the game to ensure a share of the spoils. Pocklington Town missed out on the chance to go top of Division One as they lost at home to St Clements. Having not conceded a goal all season and their opponents not having scored against Pock  in their previous three meetings,  the Saints surprised their hosts with two goals inside the first eight minutes on there way to a 3-0 win. Lewis Bootland (2) and Liam King shared the visitors goals. Malton & Norton recorded their third draw of the season as they drew 3-3 at Amotherby despite leading 3-1 at the break courtesy of Marcus Godsell hat-trick. Two second half goals from Tom Wheatlands helped Osbaldwick overturn a 2-1 deficit at the break as they O’s beat Rawcliffe 3-2 and record their first win over their visitors since May 2009,  Nick Lawrie hit the Osbaldwick opening goal.

Builders who have not won at Wheldrake since February 2007 were undone by  goals from Chris Robjohn and a brace each from Ben Smalling and Nigel Kirkby.

Wigginton maintained their 100% start to the season in Reserve A with a comfortable 5-0 win at Dringhouses. Dave Thompson, Rob Orr, Tom Darbyshire (2) and Ben Thompson sharing their nap hand.
