Easingwold’s
4-2 defeat at Huntington
brings to end their three year stay in the York Minster Engineering Premier League.
Huntington, who had hit seven goals past Easingwold in
three of the previous four meetings between the two sides, created enough chances to improve on that
sequence but given their recent performances were more than happy to take the
win, Ash Hill opened the scoring with Chris Dyson – scoring for the fourth game
on the bounce, doubling their lead before Simon Webster reduced the arrears
with the first of his two goals for Easingwold. Lee Bunce added the third and
the goal of the game came from James Edmund who started the move deep in his
own half before finishing in style. The visitors added a late consolation goal.
After the game Huntington
announced that they had secured the services of Iain Dunne and Pete Laidlaw for
the Premier League side next season with Gary Naylor and Paul Horsman will be
looking after their Reserve team.
A
few weeks ago the Dunnington v Wigginton fixture looked to be the match to
decide the destiny of the Premier League title but a string of poor results
have seen the Grasshoppers slip out of contention and a top four finish is now
the best they can hope for as they suffered their sixth game without a win
going down 4-1 to the Champions. Luke Dove’s early strike for Dunnington was
cancelled out by Lee Stewart but a couple of Tom Richards goals before the
break and a Grant Bulmer goal in the second half easily ensured that Dunnington
completed the entire season without a single defeat.
Poppleton
ended the season on a high as they chalked up their fourth consecutive away win
as they defeated Selby RSSC 2-1, Jack Doyle and Matty Janes bagged for Pop with
Matty Howden replying for Selby. York St Johns, without a home win in 5, entertained Terrington who were looking for
their first away win in five and neither side improved their run as they game
ended 1-1, Chris Walker levelling for the Students after Chris Leadham had put
the Glory boys in front.
The
battle to decide who goes up with F1 Racing from Division Three is
still in the balance after last night’s
fixtures though Civil Service are out of contention as they could only draw 2-2
with promotion rivals Bishop Wilton. Goals from Tom Knowles and Jason Nattarass
looked to be setting up Bishop Wilton’s first win in seven but they were pegged
back with a brace from James Windle as they had to settle for their first away
draw of the campaign. The two sides also shared four goals in their earlier
league fixture. Barmby Moor reclaimed
second position in the table following their 2-0 win at Selby Olympia – their
first away win in five – with goals from Simon Houlder and Will Nicholson. If
Bishop Wilton win on Wednesday and Sporting Knavesmire defeat Barmby Moor on
Saturday all three sides will finish on equal points and promotion will be
decided by goal difference which is currently in Bishop Wiltons favour. A
Barmby Moor win at Sporting though eliminate the need for the slide rule and
Barmby would be promoted.
Poppleton, needing a win in their final game to ensure
their Reserve C status for next season trailed 3-2 at home to
Rowntrees but the guile and experience of 47 year old Ken Powell showed as he hit
their winner as Pop won 5-4. A Matty Graham goal and a Nick Moss hat-trick also
contributed! Basement side Strensall took their tally from their last five
games to 10 points with a 3-1 home win over Stamford Bridge ,
Tony Downing equalised for the visitors after Ryan Munford had given Strensall
the lead but then Munford added his second of the game before Tom Wood
confirmed the win. Thorpe Utd also climbed
to safety following their 2-1 home win over relegation threatened Tockwith,
Andy Wilson and Daniel Mustill shared the Thorpe goals. With just three games
remaining in Reserve C, the relegation issue is down to a two from three
scenario, Strensall, who have three games to play, Tockwith who finished their fixtures and
Wilberfoss who entertain Strensall next week.
Crayke
travelled to Rufforth for their final Reserve D fixture knowing that they
needed to beat their hosts by at least three goals to claim promotion and
despite goals from Jack Cartwright, Toby Wells and Matty Bilham it will be St
Clements who will be playing in Reserve C next season as they also conceded
goals to Tom Bateson and Danny Rogers as Crayke won 3-2. Ben Rawson hit a first
half hat-trick for Cliffe as they wound up their season with a 3-0 win at Tadcaster Town .
