Saturday 27th October 2012

With a depleted league programme in the  York Minster Engineering League due to the York FA Cup ties, only two Premier League fixtures were scheduled and both resulted in comfortable wins for the visiting sides.

Wigginton Grasshoppers moved within four points of Dunnington in the  Premier League table – and they still have a game in hand -  following their emphatic 5-0 win at Easingwold Town.  Despite been camped in the hosts half for most of the game Wigginton did not break down the stubborn Easingwold defence until 55 minutes when Lee McQuade hit his 17th goal of the League campaign. Within four minutes Lee Stewart doubled their lead and further goals came from Kev Butler – his 10th of the season -  Jack Coates and a Tom Metcalfe penalty. It was Easingwold’s second successive 5-0 home defeat and their third of the season.  Copmanthorpe moved up three places up the League table after their 4-1 win at Rowntrees. Robin Bedford scored twice in the first six minutes for Cop and took his tally to 7 from his last 3 games when he completed his hat-trick and before the break Cop keeper Ben Sheenan converted his second penalty of the season. Dan Marshall pulled a goal back for Rowntrees midway through the second half.

Total Sports pushed their unbeaten run to 5 games in Division One after they recorded a 3-1 win at Tockwith despite trailing at the interval. Dan Palmer hit a corker of a goal to level the scores before strikes from Darren Smith  and Amos Laverack confirmed their win.  Amotherby slipped to their fifth home game without a win as they lost 4-2 to Wilberfoss who now move off the bottom of the league table, John Dunning and Matty Webster were on target for Amotherby and it was a first win in 7 for Foss.

In the only Division Two fixture, Stamford Bridge,  without a home in four,  entertained Heslington who were looking for their first away win in five and it was the visitors that prevailed. Nick Rank’s early goal for the hosts was cancelled out by Dan Topping and though Harry Bryant restored Stamford’s lead the sides went into the break on level terms following Stuart Dickinson equaliser. In the second period both Topping and Dickinson added to their early strikes as Heslington won 4-2.

Huby move of the bottom rung in Division Three after their 2-1 home win over Ousburn, after a goalless opening half the visitors took the lead but two goals from Richard Jennsion earned a first win of the season for Huby.    Civil Service registered their first draw in 11 games as they drew 1-1 with F1 Racing,  Gareth Inness hit their equaliser after F1 had taken the lead also with a penalty.

LNER Builders bounced back to winning ways in Division Four after three successive defeats, as they defeated Huntington FC 3-0, Sam Hill and Andy Hurren hit first half goals for the Builders with Dan Swires completing the scoring in the second period.  York Acorns moved to the top of the table, albeit on goal difference, after their 6-1 win at Melbourne, Connor Larner took his tally for the season into double figures with a brace to add to goals from Andy Dutton (2) Chris Ellerker and Lee Dutton, Jake Winspear hit the hosts reply.  John Langley gave Moor Lane an early lead at Tadcaster but Will Leatt levelled for the hosts on the stroke of half-time before second half goals from Adam Field, scoring for the third game on the trot,   and Lee Murphy sealed a 3-1 win for Tadcaster Town.

Ben Thompson came off the bench  for the last 20 minutes to rescue Reserve A League leaders Wigginton from their first home defeat in a dozen matches. Visitors Old Malton led through a Dan Hodgson goal in the first half – the first goal Wigginton had conceded in over six hours -   and Rob Pinder then doubled their lead but two goals from Thompson in the last 10 minutes salvaged Grasshoppers unbeaten record as the sides drew 2-2.  A goal in each half, the first from Jason Kelly, the second from Nathan Green helped Haxby to their first win in four as they beat Riccall 2-0.

The Reserve B draw specialists Amotherby  chalked up their four draw of the season as they shared the spoils at Heslington, George Everett put Amotherby in front before John Hughes levelled for Heslington. It was Heslington’s first home draw in 18 games.

Malton & Norton are the new leaders in Reserve C following their 2-0 win at Thorpe,  Callum Holmes hit their opener with their second coming from Steve Hoggard.  Josh Knowles scored twice for Selby RSSC as they came from a goal down at home to Wilberfoss to win 3-1. Kyle Pool added their third which condemned Foss to their 9th away trip without a win.

In Reserve D, a Sean Taylor hat-trick helped F1 Racing record their first home win over Huby in five attempts despite been unbeaten at Huby ! Mark Foster added the fourth as F1 won 4-0.
