Premier League Champions Old Malton
began the defence of their title with a comfortable 3-0 win at Nestle but there
was no such luck for the two promoted sides, as Selby RSSC and Terrington Glory
both suffered home defeats. Rowntrees last league success over Old
Malton was in the opening fixture in August 2007 but a repeat was never on the
cards as the Ryedale side bossed the game from early on, Simon Cooke put the
Malton side in front after 15 minutes with Dean Nuttall making it 2-0 on 24
minutes. On the half hour Nuttall failed to add to their tally as he blazed a
penalty high and wide but the win was confirmed in the second half through
Danny Fogg. Terrington Glory matched visitors
Dringhouses for 87 minutes in their Premier League debut but ‘Houses took the
honours as Tom Bissett poked home the only goal of the game three minutes from
time following a goal mouth scramble. Selby RSSC entertained Dunnington, last
season’s s runners-up, for their first ever Premier League encounter and though
the Selby side showed an abundance of
enthusiasm and energy they lost 4-1. A Rob
Hart header after 15 minutes separated the sides at the break before
Jimmy Wilmoth and Mathew Playle made it 3-0 to Dunnington. Shane Caulkill
reduced the arrears for Selby with Tom Richards completing the scoring. It was
only the second time in 9 years that Dunnington have recorded a win in their
opening league fixture. Huntington, who have not registered a league win at
Wigginton since February 2008, never
looked like improving on that record after falling behind to a Matt Tiplady
goal after just 18 minutes. Scott Stewart doubled the hosts lead before Eddie
Clapham converted a penalty as the hosts led 3-0 at the break. The second
period did not see any let up from Grasshoppers as they added further goals
from Lee McQuade and Jamie Wilstrop as Wigginton won 5-0. York RI chalked up their fifth consecutive win
over Hamilton Panthers as Nick Hutchinson scored the only goal of the game as
RI won 1-0. Riccall Utd opened their points
account at the first time of asking as they defeated Poppleton at home. Luke
Berridge cancelled out Tom Littlewood’s
opener for the hosts before Adam Ferguson put Poppleton 2-1 in front but before
the break Littlewood had doubled his tally for the afternoon and a Liam Brown
effort saw Riccall take the lead for a second time. Ryan Watson and Wayne
Brooke added second half goals fro Riccall as they won 5-2.
