Match Reports from 27 April 2013

27th April 2013

Easingwold Town let slip a 2-1 half-time lead at home to Riccall in the York Minster Engineering Premier League and with it any realistic hope of staying in the top flight.  Gary Collier put Riccall in front but before the break Steve Aconley struck twice for Easingwold to give the hosts some hope but their 10th home game without a win was confirmed as the visitors responded through Liam Olsen, an og and a second of the game for Collier. Defeat at Huntington on Monday evening will see Easingwold joining Hamilton Panthers in Division One next season but even a victory at Huntington will still leave them just 1 point above St Johns,  who still have four games to play.

Selby RSSC guaranteed themselves another season in the Premier League as a Louis Blackwell hat-trick,  including the last-minute winner,  turned a two goal deficit at York St Johns into a 3-2 win, their first in six games. Earlier Daniel Tingay hit the opening goal – the first goal at home for the Students in almost five hours -  before Chris Walker made it 2-0 and then came the Blackwell show!

Huntington ended a run of eight games without a win as they narrowly beat relegated Hamilton Panthers, Chris Dyson struck the only goal of the game while Carl Stewart scored twice for Rowntrees in their 3-0 win at Poppleton.  Dringhouses avenged the home defeat by local rivals York RI ten days ago by defeating the same opposition in the reverse fixture 5-3, Liam Stilgoe (2) Dave Watson, Steve Rambridge and Javier Shepherd were on target for ‘Houses with Craig Atkinson, Mark Woodward and Lee Powell – scoring for the sixth game on the trot – replying for the home side. Champions Dunnington completed their away fixtures with a 3-0 win at Terrington, Matty Wain hit their opener with a penalty before Jimmy Wilmoth doubled their lead with a tap-in and a Kieran O’Brien header completed the scoring.

White Hose may have just missed out on promotion from Division One but they finished the season in style as they hit eight unanswered goals past a bewildered Wilberfoss side. John Marshall took his tally for the season to 15 with four of their goals,  while the remainder came from Chris Thompson, John Langrick (2) and Len Hall.

The battle for the second promotion place in Division Three continues to intrigue as just one point now separates the four sides vying for the runners-up spot. Sporting Knavesmire,  who for a long time were out of the reckoning,  but have now picked up regular points while their rivals flounder continued the trend as they defeated the already crowned Champions,  F1 Racing 1-0 Danny Smith fired in the only goal which takes Sporting into second place in the table. Barmby Moor,  having already collected silverware in the form of the East Riding County Cup on Thursday evening, failed to win away from home for the fourth game on the trot as they lost 4-2 to Civil Service who themselves are still in the mix for promotion.

James Windle hit his fourth treble of the season for Civil Service after Gareth Inness had given them an early lead with a penalty. Elvington’s relegation was rubber-stamped as they lost 2-1 at home to Rufforth, Sam  Martin hit the Harriers lone goal.

Tadcaster Town head Division Four after they took all three points in the top-of-the-table clash with York Acorn and now need just a point from their final game on Wednesday evening when they entertain Selby Town Res.  Adam Field gave Tadcaster a flying start as he opened the scoring inside the first minute and then added Tadcaster’s second just before the break. Leigh Dutton, the leading scorer in the Division,  reduced the arrears five minutes from time

Pete Webster hit a hat-trick for Huntington FC as they wrapped up their first season in the York Minster Engineering Football League with a comfortable 5-1 home win over Selby Town Res,   Daniel Bowley and Eric Balderstone completed the scoring for the hosts.

Copmanthorpe inflicted a first defeat in 33 games on Reserve A Champions Dunnington as they triumphed 5-1 at Dunnington with all the goals scored in the opening half.  Cop raced into a five goal lead courtesy  of Jack Hugill and a brace each for Jake Moyse and Tom Settle before Ross Wilkinson pulled a goal back for a shell-shocked Dunnington. Dringhouses looking to consolidate a third place finish in the table beat Riccall 2-0 with their goals shared between Stuart Jenkins and Sam Kitson.

Easingwold finally pinched the runners-up spot in Reserve B with a last minute goal to snatch a 4-3 win at York St Johns. The students,  who needed to win to avoid relegation, led at the interval through Sam Burton and Tom Parry before Easingwold rallied to lead 3-2, Burton equalised for the Students but two late goals sealed promotion for Easingwold. Jordan Green (2) an own goal and John Dey were on the Easingwold score-sheet. Tadcaster Magnets beat Aviva 2-0 to confirm their stay in Reserve B next season but in doing so condemned Amotherby & Swinton to relegation. Paul Smith and Mathew Mason netted in the second half for Taddy. Champions White Horse recorded their first away draw in 19 matches as they shared the points at Pocklington, Danny Graham’s opening goal for the Church Fenton side was cancelled out by Sam Morrell for Pock.

The two bottom sides in Reserve C both recorded useful home wins  to drag their beaten opponents into the relegation battle, Jason Heslop scored the only goal of the game as basement side Strensall inflicted a sixth defeat on the trot for Poppleton – and Pop have failed to score in five of those defeats - while second-bottom Wilberfoss moved within a point of Tockwith after they put four unanswered goals past them. Gaz Brook started the balling rolling for Foss in the first half and Tockwith could find no response to second half strikes from Jono Parkin, James Parkin and Robin Walker.

St Clements have put out the gauntlet to Crayke in the battle for the runners-up spot in Reserve D following their 6-1 home win over Bishop Wilton, Liam Kettlewell (2),  Mathew Horner (2) James Cooper and Tom Nicholas shared the Saints tally with Jason Race hitting the solitary Bishop Wilton reply. To deny St Clements promotion Crayke not only need to beat Rufforth on Monday evening but with at least a three goal margin.  Bottom of the table Huby Utd doubled their number of wins for the season in some style as they travelled away to,  and beat,  Champions Civil Service 4-3, the Huby hero was hat-trick boy Ashley Inness with Tom Horner adding their fourth. Olly Cook, Declan Parks and Lewis Hardy replied for hosts. Cliffe Reserves preserved their unbeaten record against F1 Racing as they won 2-1 with goals from  Ryan Tiplady and Nigel Horner.
