Match Reports from 30 March 2013

Dunnington continue to move closer to a first York Minster Engineering Premier League title in more than 15 years as they pushed their unbeaten run to 25 league games with a 3-1 win at York RI. Alex Lowe put Dunnington in front and Scott Sullivan – scoring for the fifth game on the trot – doubled their lead before the break, Luke Dove added their third before Liam Keenaghan pulled a late goal back for the York FA Cup Finalists.

 

Despite away wins for the bottom two sides in the York Minster Engineering Premier League both Hamilton Panthers and Rowntrees remain in the relegation zone.

Hamilton Panthers recorded their first away win since January 2012 as they beat fellow strugglers Poppleton 2-0. Josh Leeming broke the deadlock in the second half with Adam Fishwick confirming a first away win for the Panthers in 14 matches and a first win over Pop since March 2010. Huntington Rovers suffered their fourth game without a win as they lost 4-2 to Rowntrees, Mark Smythe’s opener for the visitors was cancelled out by a left footed chip over the keeper from Iain Dunne before the break but after the resumption Will Naviani struck twice for Rowntrees to add to a Matty Walters goal as the hosts floundered before John James hit a late goal for Huntington.

Sam Lander hit the only goal of the game as Old Malton defeated Selby RSSC in a scrappy game to extend their unbeaten run to 6 matches. A goal in each half, the first from Adam Fisher the second by Chris Leedham helped Terrington Glory to end a four game winless run at they defeated York St Johns 2-0.

Dringhouses chalked up their 8th game without a defeat with a 2-1 home win over Riccall with all the goals coming in the first half, , Mike McKenzie put ‘Houses in front with a penalty, Mitch Carter added their second and Tom Littlewood reduced the arrears on the stroke of half-time. Copmanthorpe recorded their biggest away win in over 10 years as they thrashed Easingwold Town 9-1, a Robin Bedford goal separated the sides with less than five minutes to go to the break but two goals in as many minutes saw Cop leading 3-0 at the interval and it was virtually one-way traffic in the second half, Bedford scored another three to add to a Mike Peace hat-trick and one each for Mark Featherstone and Olly Bird, Simon Webster hit a consolation effort for the hosts.     

 

After two home defeats Aviva bounced back into contention for promotion in Division One with a 2-1 win over relegation-threatened Wilberfoss, a Tom Shirley free-kick gave the Insurance men the lead at the interval and three minutes into the second period pressure from Scott Caul forced an own goal from a Foss defender, Jed Vale pulled a goal back for Wilberfoss but Aviva held their nerve and a win in their final fixture will see them playing in the Premier League next August. Malton and Norton suffered their first away defeat in 14 games as they lost 2-0 at Tockwith which virtually ends the Ryedale sides promotion hopes. Tockwith, now unbeaten in 9,  scored through James Neville and Graham Hutchinson, it was Malton’s first defeat at Tockwith since 27 March 2010. Lenny Mason scored the only goal of the game as White Horse beat Hemingbrough 1-0 to keep the Church Fenton side in the promotion mix and two goals from Amos Laverack helped Total Sports to a 2-0 win over Pocklington, their first home win over Pocklington in four attempts.      

Amotherby & Swinton wrapped up their league fixtures with an emphatic 7-0 win at relegated Haxby Utd. Andy Phillips hit five of their goals including a hat-trick in the opening half hour, Matty Webster and Mike Lindsay completed the rout. 

 

The top four sides in Division Two all collected points as the scramble for honours intensifies. Chris Bilton hit a hat-trick for leaders Osbaldwick as they won 4-0 at home to Heslington, Nick Lawrie added their fourth while second placed Rawcliffe needed a last minute penalty from Reece Chapellow to salvage a point at Cliffe. Twice Rangers led,  initially through John Moss and then Danny Coulson,  but the hosts replied through Ian Beckram and Chris Jackson before Ben Rawson put Cliffe in front but Rawcliffe preserved their 12 match unbeaten run with the late penalty. Fulford slipped to their first home defeat in 9 as they lost 2-1 to third in the table Bishopthorpe and Andy Kitchen hit both goals for fourth placed Tadcaster Magnets in their 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge. Thorpe Utd eased their relegation worries slightly with a 3-2 win over fellow strugglers Strensall, Craig Campbell’s opening brace for Thorpe was cancelled out by a Danny Mason double before Glen Littlewood hit the winner for Thorpe and end a 8 match winless run for the Selby side.

 

Barmby Moor’s promotion hopes in Division Three were severely dented following their 3-0 home defeat to Civil Service – their first home defeat of the season. Civil Service’s James Windle proved to be difference between the two sides as he hit all three goals for the visitors. A George         Trifian brace helped  F1 Racing open up a nine point lead at the top of the table following their nervous 2-1 home win over Ouseburn but they have played more games than the other challengers. Sporting Knavesmire trailed at the break  to a Steve Gagen goal at Rufforth but goals from, George Wilson and two from Tom Williams saw them to a 3-1 win. Elvington Harriers and Selby Olympia drew 1-1 for the second time this season and for the fourth consecutive game between the two sides, Callum Richardson netted for the Harriers.

 

Tadcaster Town just need a minimum of two wins from their remaining seven games to guarantee them promotion from Division Four after they thrashed LNER Builders 7-1 with five of their goals coming in the second half.  Adam Field increased his tally for the season by 4 with their other goals coming from Will Leatt, Andrew Simpson and an og. York Acorn,  already assured of promotion, hit six unanswered goals past Selby Town Res through Connor Larner (2) Chris Ellerker, Wilson Briggs and one each for brothers Andy and Leigh Dutton.  Huntington  FC and Melbourne were both looking for their first win of the year and it was the former that succeeded as goals from Pete Webster (2) Shane Bogg, Eric Balderstone and an og ensured a first win in seven for Huntington.

 

 

Dunnington registered their largest win in Reserve A in over nine years as they hammered Haxby 10-3 despite been on level terms at 3-3 at the break, Andy Rose led the rout with 4 with two each from Josh Martin and Matty Phail and one a piece from Simon Castle and Robbie Hart. The Haxby goals came from Billy Ross (2) and Paul Holmes. Dunnington heaviest home defeat was at the hands of Haxby in 2010.

 

In the only Reserve B fixture scheduled Heslington hit three goals in the final 10 minutes to defeat Aviva 5-2, Heslington’s nap hand came from Dan Topping (2) Aiden Bardy and Gary Newbold (2) with James Dunwoody netting both Aviva goals and in the solitary Reserve C fixture Thorpe secured their first away win in four with three goals in the final 20 minutes to defeat Wilberfoss 3-1, Matty Holme had earlier put Wilberfoss in front.

 

Cliffe notched up their fourth away win on the trot in Reserve D and have yet to concede a goal in this sequence , their latest win was at Huby as goals from Tom Dunning (2), Toby Bodycombe and Tom Ellwood helped them a to 4-0 victory.

 

Whilst the early rounds of the Senior and Junior League Cups have been devoid of major surprises the Reserve League Cup produced two major shocks which saw two Reserve A sides been dumped out of this years competition and another couple just scraping through into the next Round

 

Reserve A side Huntington Rovers travelled to Reserve D side Civil Service for the third successive year and it proved to be third time lucky for the basement league side as they came from trailing 2-0 at the break to level the game and they then won the penalty shoot-out. Rovers goals came from Gaz Hurst and Graham McDonald with Mark Lund and Gareth Srain replying for Civil Service. Reserve A side Copmanthorpe entertained Reserve C side Hemingbrough and duly took the lead inside the first five minutes through Graham Butcher but the visitors  refused to lie down and levelled through Mike Young before goals from Liam Gautry and Mike Brown sealed a creditable 3-1 win for Hemingbrough. 

 

Reserve A side Old Malton were pushed all the way by  Reserve B side Tadcaster Magnets, Richard Stevenson gave the Ryedale side an early lead but Taddy levelled 10 mine from time to send the game into penalties which Old Malton won. Riccall were another Reserve A side almost embarrassed by a side from the lower leagues as they won 3-2 against Reserve D side Crayke, on target for Riccall were Brett Collier (2) and Danny Rodwell.  Dringhouses travelled to Reserve D side St Clements and conceded an early goal to Gareth Moore but the Reserve A outfit responded with a hat-trick from Marco Shepherd and a brace from Jamie Barkway as ‘Houses won 5-2, Joe Hamilton hit the second Saints goal. The other ties went to form, Reserve B leaders  White Horse defeated Tockwith 3-1 with goals from Tom Parnaby, Kyle Hesling and Adam Beavers and promotion chasing Easingwold Town from Reserve B proved to be far to good for Reserve D side Wheldrake as they won 12-1 which include four goals for John Dye and a hat-trick for Andrew Metcalfe (Snr). Dan Combes hit four of Rowntrees goals in their 8-1 home win over Bishop Wilton to add to a Dan Marshall hat-trick and a Matty Carlton header, Carl Massingham hit a late token reply for the visitors. Last seasons beaten finalist Strensall are still in the hunt for another Cup Final appearance after they defeated Stamford Bridge 3-2, John Cooper scored twice to put Strensall in front but the visitors who had beaten their hosts in a league encounter only last month,  drew level through Craig Hargreaves and Matt Free but Cooper completed his hat-trick to book Strensall into the next round.
