Match Reports from 6th April 2013

6th April 2013

There were wins for the top three sides in the York Minster Engineering Premier League which leaves leaders Dunnington well on course to take the Championship title.

Dunnington travelled to Dringhouses looking for their first win at St Helens Road since January 2009 and had the better of the opening half scoring twice through Tom Richards and Scott Sullivan. The hosts controlled the second half but their only reward was a Liam Stilgoe header as Dunnington held on to win 2-1.

Second placed Wigginton also recorded a first win at York St Johns in four years as they kept their slim Premier League title hopes alive with a 5-0 victory over the students. The Premier League’s top scorer Lee McQuade led the rout with a hat-trick to take his tally for the season to 28 and the Grasshoppers completed their scoring through Lee Stewart and the pick of the bunch from Ben Thompson. Third placed Old Malton comfortably accounted for struggling Hamilton Panthers winning 5-0 with goals from Dean Nuttall, Darren Dunning, Danny Fogg and Damian Cox (2).

Riccall completed the double over Terrington Glory as they followed up their 1-0 win at Terrington in November by winning the return encounter by the same score-line, Andy Addison hitting the only goal of the game.

Selby RSSC had to wait until March to record their first home win in the Premier League but just like the  buses,  along comes a second straight away as they defeated York RI 7-2. The Selby goals were shared between Chris Coxen , Matty Muscroft, Rob Friar,  John Page and a hat-trick from Louis Blackwell.

Relegation-threatened Rowntrees avenged a 7-0 drubbing at the hands of Easingwold by taking the honours and more importantly the points, from the return encounter at home as they won 5-3. Matt Walters opened the scoring just before the half hour mark  and Rowntrees added two further goals from Carl Stewart and Joe Cox five minutes either side of the interval to lead 3-0, Angus Taylor and Mark Coulson dragged Easingwold back into the game but Paul Scaife and a second from Stewart ensured Rowntrees live to fight another day in the battle to avoid the drop. Adam Patterson added a late goal for Easingwold.

White Horse kept in touch with the promotion contenders in Division One with a 2-0 home win over Pocklington, with both goals been scored in the opening half, John Marshall hit the first and John Langrick the second.

Haxby recorded their first double of the season as they defeated Wilberfoss 5-0, Matty Wash hit a hat-trick to add to goals from Billy Ross and Nathan Green. The result confirms that both sides have been relegated in successive seasons and will meet again next season but in Division Two. Hemingbrough, who this week booked their place in the East Riding Cup Final,  recorded a first win over Tockwith in seven attempts as they came from trailing to a Robert Wilson goal at the break to win 3-1 with goals from Aidie  Wood and a Jamie Wheeler brace.

Division Two leaders Osbaldwick improved their goal difference as they hammered bottom of the table Stamford Bridge 7-0, Nick Laurie hit three of their goals with the rout was completed by Stan Thompson, Mike Hattee, Andy Bilton and an og. Thirteen proved to be unlucky for Rawcliffe as they suffered their first defeat in 13 games and with it any realistic hope of promotion as they lost 2-1 at promotion rivals Tadcaster Magnets. Chris Porter put Taddy in front after just three minutes and though Rawcliffe levelled before the break Phil Smith clinched the win for Magnets in the last two minutes. Cliffe extended their unbeaten home to five with a 5-3 win over Strensall with Ruben Pearce hitting the first four Cliffe goals and all from outside the box. Nathan Parker completed the nap hand for the hosts with the visitors replying through Danny Mason, Jack Bell and Lee Jackson.

F1 Racing have opened up an imposing 12 point lead at the top of Division Three and just one more win from their remaining two games will see them take the title. They chalked up their sixth away trip without a defeat as they hit five unanswered goals past Huby and in doing so condemned their hosts to relegation. George Trifan hit his fourth hat-trick of the season after Neil Yeowart had put F1 in front and before Mike Taylor celebrated his first ever goal for F1.  Bishop Wilton and Barmby Moor have for most of the season been likely contenders for a promotion place but both have suddenly lost the plot, and as a consequence have given hope to Civil Service and Sporting Knavesmire. Bishop Wilton suffered their fourth game without a win as they lost 1-0 at home to Ouseburn while Barmby Moor slipped to their third defeat on the trot as they lost 6-3 at Rufforth despite leading 3-1 at the interval. Rufforth’s fight-back was instigated by Graham Rae who hit a goal in each half and completed by Daniel Whitcombe and a Phil Jones hat-trick.

Sporting Knavesmire pushed their unbeaten home run to six games and ignited promotion hopes after they defeated Crayke 4-2. George Wilson’s opener for the hosts was cancelled out before the break but second half strikes from Dan Smith, Mike Eddam and Tom Williams sealed the win. Sporting’s downfall could be the fact that they still have 7 games to fit in before the end of the season.   Civil Service have an outside chance of promotion after their 3-2 home win Elvington, their first win over the Harriers in five meetings. Lee Richardson struck twice after the interval for the home side after Chris Smith had opened the scoring, Adam Robertson hit both of Elvingtons goals.

Tadcaster Town moved within one win of joining York Acorn in Division Three next season after their 3-0 home success over Huntington in Division Four and despite rivals LNER Builders beating Moor Lane 4-1. Tom Deighton (2) and Will Leatt shared the Tadcaster goals while Builders,  who trailed after three minutes,  won with two goals each from Sam Hill and Dean Machin. York Acorn pushed their unbeaten run to 17 games as they walloped Wheldrake 7-0 with a hat-trick each from Chris Ellerker and Leigh Dutton and one from Andy Dutton.  York Acorn sit eight points clear of Tadcaster though the two sides have to play each other twice which will probably decide the destination of the Championship Shield.

Defending Reserve A Champions Dunnington needed a late Rob Hart penalty to preserve their 28 match unbeaten run as they shared the spoils with Dringhouses in a 1-1 draw. Marco Shepherd had earlier put ‘Houses in front as Dringhouses recorded their first away draw since April 3rd 2010. A Danny Leach hat-trick helped Copmanthorpe enjoy their first away success of the campaign as they beat hosts York RI 5-0 Stu Aughton and Matty Pallister completed the Cop tally. Old Malton are still looking for their first away win of the year after they lost 3-2 at Huntington, the hosts raced into a three goal lead courtesy of James Edmund and an Ash Hill double before the Ryedale side responded with goals from Jack Thackray and Richard Stevenson.

While it looks likely that White Horse will take one of the promotion places in Reserve B the question of who joins them is now arguably down to two,  Easingwold remain in pole position after they recorded their third successive win at Aviva, Gary Raper and Jordan Green netted in their 2-0 win but Fulford FC Utd are still very much in the hunt after Steve Cooper scored for the fourth game on the trot as Fulford beat Heslington 1-0. However Pocklington’s hopes look to be scuppered as they conceded a last minute goal direct from a corner to lose 1-0 at home to basement side Tadcaster Magnets. It was Taddy’s first away win since the corresponding week-end last year.  Graham Vickers hit both Bishopthorpe goals as they came from a goal down at home to York St Johns to win 2-1 and ease their relegation worries. It was also Bish’s first win over the students in 6 meetings.

Reserve C Champions-elect Malton & Norton dented the promotion aspirations of hosts Poppleton as Adam Cooke scored twice in the opening 20 minutes as the Ryedale side won 2-0. Stamford Bridge are still in the chase for the runners-up spot after second half goals from Michael Saunders and Dave Lynch secured a 2-1 win at Hemingbrough, Mike Brown had earlier put the home side in front. Struggling Wilberfoss picked up three valuable points as they defeated Rowntrees 4-0 and virtually ended their visitors hopes of promotion, the Foss goals were shared between Jono Parkin, Gaz Brooke,  Cliff Allen and a James Parkin penalty.

Civil Service celebrated winning the Reserve D Championship in style as they trounced F1 Racing 9-0. Two Oliver Cook goals separated the sides at the break before they moved into top gear with goals from Declan Parker, Ross Dixon (his sixth from his last five games) a third of the game for Cook and four goals from Gareth Srain (taking his tally for the season to 22). St Clements late push for promotion continues to pick-up momentum as a Joe Hamilton goal and a Mathew Horner brace earned them a 3-1 win over Tadcaster Town, their sixth game without defeat.

Cliffe conceded their first away goals of the season but still chalked up their fifth consecutive away win as they triumphed 5-3 at Wheldrake, Tom Anderson scored twice for the hosts to add to a Campbell Thompson effort with the Cliffe goals coming from Nigel Horner, and two each for Toby Bodycombe and Tom Dunning.
